The Story
Behind HCTJ
The separation of the different characters enables an element of purity during the trial — none of them have the ability to physically interact with each other. Because of that lack of contact, the element of bribery is removed from the situation.

Our judge presides and towers over the criminal and the victim as a sign of wisdom, knowledge, and power.
The criminal and the victim share a few things in common — a severed arm and the perpendicular white lines jutting out of their heads, as if they are shocked at what the judge is saying.
They differ in the visual makeup of their personas. The criminal has a very segmented and muddy appearance: crooked teeth, a black eye, and a knife instead of a hand. So not only did the criminal cut off his own arm, but he also cut the arm of the victim in a rage. What sparked the rage? That's up to the judge to decide — because neither of them can remember what happened.
The Victim has a gun for one of his hands, along with a halo above his head, claiming and exuding innocence. Is he really innocent? The five vertical blocks next to the barbed-wire fence indicate his evidence against the criminal. The symbols that appear at the top-left of the victim's hand induce clarity of thought.
Moving onto the judge, we see very minimal colors and line differential within his body. A crown indicates authority and a large hand indicates leadership. Just to the left of the judge's head is a very clear symbol with a pyramid on top of it — symbolizing that justice will be served.
The ticker on the bottom represents what's called on TV a "lower third" — meant to alert the viewer to what is happening in the courtroom.
